Steve Jenkins - Managing Director
I have been in the construction industry for more than 35 years with my early training focused around timber joinery, specialising in timber doors, windows, stairs and kitchens. Almost a lost art now but the knowledge I gained during this time has been invaluble as my career progressed. Understanding the way waterproofing principles and material behavoirs have given me a unique perspective on how to build and maintain structures.
Following my time in joinery where I also owned a kitchen design and manufacturing business, I moved into the building site where I added to my skills and got further insite into the issues faced on site by builders whendesigns were hard to build or poorly documented.
Lead Designer - Holah Homes
In 2008 I decided to take the leap and get formal training in design and architectural documentation at Waikato Polytechnic. The new training quickly turned into a Design role at Holah Homes in Hamilton. One of the great things I enjoyed working here was both the chalenging designs and the ability to work with the builders to work out the best details and way of building projects.
Design Manager - GJ Gardner Homes Hamilton Franchise
I left Holah Homes in 2016 to take up a role as the Design manger and member of the senior leadership at GJ Gardner Hamilton where I was responsible for the team that produced design and documentation of all the homes built by the Hamilton franchise. This would involve handling 100+ homes at any one time and consenting up to 160 homes a year.I managed both the internal design team and contractors. I also worked with the sales team to help them sell the homes and with the construction team to ensure the homes were built correctly.
National Design Manager - GJ Gardner Homes NZ
After having sucess with team in Hamilton I then had the opportunity to create a National Design Manager Role at GJ Gardner NZ Head office. While this was a newly created role it was to be come a role where I was to become involved in most aspects of the business and franchise network.

Risk management.
I create and implemented a matrix for nationwide franchise network on what design elements were to be designed out and products that were to high risk or not supported by suppliers that should not be used. With the network building 1800 homes a year this risk had to be well managed to ensure our homes were built to the highest standard.

Plan Range
I revamped the national plan range to better suit current needs and met the latest drawing standards. This required new distribution methods and development of a plan apllication in ios, android and VR via the meta store. This allowed clients to walk through the plans on their own devices.

Internal Waterproofing
In 2020 I started a project to improve internal waterproofing outcomes Working alongside the Tile Association of New Zealand. We implemented auditing training and quality control systems using the an onsite inspection application.

Thermal Efficiency
My passion is creating great homes. These should not only look great but be great to live in. My time in GJs allowed me to partner with leaders in the home performance sector to train the sales teams, construction teams and designers. Thermal efficiency has many different peices that work together and design is a big part of that.
